Issue:
- Replacing a bad drive
- Upgrading the hard drive retention
- A complete disc backup
Pre-requisite:
- Costar recorder
- Please refer to the article below for compatible Hard Drives.

Solution:
- Make note of the unit’s Model and Serial Number and call Costar Tech Support to let them know you are taking the case lid off for HDD purposes. Failure to do this may void the unit’s warranty.
- Power down the recorder by pulling the 120VAC power Cord from the unit. NEVER power the unit up with the case lid off, always place it back on before powering the unit back up. Keep your hands away from the internal power supply as there are large Capacitors that will hold a charge even when powered off.
- Remove the screws holding the case lid on. Store the screws safely for re-installing the case lid.
- Remove the screw in front holding the HDD bay in the unit. Slide the bay slightly forward to unclip it from the bottom and remove the bay with the old HDD.
- Remove the (4) screws holding the HDD into the bay. Use a manual screwdriver to install your replacement HDD. Once HDD is in the bay re-install the bay carefully as to not damage any other parts. Reconnect the Red SATA cable and power connectors.
- Re-install the case lid with the screws. Do not overtighten!
Note: After the new HDD has been installed, please follow the below knowledge base article procedure for formatting the new HDD for use: https://costarvideo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500002197281-FAQ-How-to-format-a-Hard-Drive-
